Look Who’s “Wow” Now

Today I’m attending the “Grand Launching Microsoft Windows Vista” in Jakarta Convention Center. Windows Vista is the latest Microsoft Windows Operating System with the tagline “The ‘WOW’ Starts Now”. I thought the visitors won’t be as much because of 1 month delay of the event. In the venue, there are XL Business Solution booth, Acer booth, Nortel Network booth, Samsung booth, and many more. I was attending the presentation about developer track for Windows Vista. They introduce WCF for creating web services application, WPF for creating good looking application for Windows Vista and a demo for Windows Meeting Space. For the WPF presentation, my friend, Dondy Bappedyanto is the speaker. I’m quite impressed what WPF can do to make a beautiful looking applications. Not just desktop applications but also web applications. Unfortunately I didn’t get the door prize for that session :p

After that session, I show my friend and his friends my Ubuntu desktop with beryl installed. I showed them some beryl’s desktop effects and of course the famous 3D cube. And one of them said “Wow, this is better than Vista”. And one of them said, “why don’t you open a booth here?” hahaha…. yeaa right… An Ubuntu booth in Windows Vista launching :p

I wish I could get my hands on Windows Vista, so I could explore it more deeper. For knowledge purposes only of course :)

* ping Dondy, when will you give me an Original Windows Vista? I’ll trade it with the new Ubuntu CD :D *

OpenMoko

At last i have the time to write about this incredible mobile platform.

OpenMoko is an open source mobile communications movement with a mission to create a platform that empowers people to customize their phone, much like a computer, in any way they see fit. It is a platform that focuses on innovation, usability, reliability and quality.
Because OpenMoko is based on the latest Linux, developers now have an easy way to create applications and deliver services that span all users and provide a common “look and feel”.

It’s an iPod… It’s a cellphone… It’s iPhone

Apple just announce a new stylish gadget called iPhone. The iPhone has an integrated 2.0 megapixels camera, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth with EDR, Quad-band GSM with EDGE and 4GB or 8GB of storage. And it will use OS X for the Operating System, so the browser will be using Safari and it will support widgets. It has no stylus, because the iPhone is designed to be use using fingers although in my opinion, stylus must be available for optional accessories.

GPRS Xplore & 3G

Lagi naksir berat sama SE K800i =p~

Mac Mac Mac

WTF!!

Artiin sendiri yah di http://www.geekcode.com/geek.html.

Nah barusan saya nemu Blogger Code :p Mungkin udah basi, tapi ngga apa-apa soalnya saya baru tau hehehe…

Yahoo Messenger milik Yahoo!

Scanning Gmail POP3 + Thunderbird for viruses

I’ve been using Gmail POP3 and Thunderbird for a while, until I realize my current antivirus software is not checking the mail that I received and sent.
So I start searching the Internet and found out that my current antivirus software has compability issues with Thunderbird. You can check it in this link.

Fortunately I have Avast! installed in my PC (I work all this thing in my laptop). So I uninstall my current antivirus software and install Avast!

I play around with Avast! configuration so it could scan my incoming and outgoing email from Gmail. But I have no luck. So I start searching again and found the solution in Avast! Web Forum. And this is how it’s done!

Software that I use:
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2
Avast! 4.6 Home Edition
Win32 OpenSSL
Stunnel 4.10
and of course a Gmail account :p

  1. Install Mozzila Thunderbird
  2. Set up a new account in Mozzila Thunderbird

    In POP setting use this:
    login: yourlogin@gmail.com
    server: 127.0.0.1
    port: 10995
    security protocol : none (“secure connection (SSL)” unchecked and “secure authenticate” unchecked)

    In SMTP setting use this:
    login: yourlogin@gmail.com
    server: 127.0.0.1
    port: 10587
    security protocol : none (“secure connection” : “none” checked)

  3. Install Avast! 4.6 Home Edition
  4. Install Win32 OpenSSL
  5. Put the stunnel-4.10.exe in any directory. I put it in C:\stunnel
    Create a new file with notepad and named it stunnel.conf
    The content of the stunnel.conf is like this:

    client=yes

    # POP3 service, listens on localhost:10995
    [gmail-pop3s]
    accept=127.0.0.1:10995
    connect=pop.gmail.com:995
    #or the SSL port of your Secure POP server if you use another service.

    # SMTP service, listens on localhost:10587
    [gmail-smtps]
    accept=127.0.0.1:10587
    connect=smtp.gmail.com:587
    protocol=smtp
    #or the SSL port of your Secure SMTP server if you use another service.

    don’t forget to save the file :p

  6. Find a file avast.ini in Avast! installation directory.
    Find the mail scanner section and edit it like this:

    [MailScanner]
    Log=20
    ShowTrayIcon=1
    AutoSetProtection=0
    PassThrough=1
    Trust=127.0.0.1
    AutoRedirect=1
    StartSmtp=1
    StartPop=1
    StartImap=1
    StartNntp=1
    PopRedirectPort=110,10995
    SmtpRedirectPort=25,10587
    ImapRedirectPort=143
    NntpRedirectPort=119
    IgnoreLocalhost=0
    IgnoreAddress=

    save the file and done :D

Now your incoming and ouotgoing mail from Gmail that POP-ed using Thunderbird will be scan for viruses by Avast!

Is your blast collecting dust?

In Yahoo! 360º I often get a message “Is your blast collecting dust?” My blast is not collecting dust! But my PC’s heatsink is collecting dust. It makes my CPU heat until 80-100 Celcius degree. Whew!
The problem occured when my PC always shutdown by itself. I thought it was caused by a virus. But finnaly I checked on the BIOS and the CPU heat is about 85. At first, i thought it was normal, because i don’t know the usual CPU heat. So I start googling. I was suprised because people said that the normal CPU heat supposed to be at 40 degree and the highest is 78 degree.
Then I ask my friend via YM what could cause the overheat. He said that the thermal paste between the heatsink and the processor is not tight enough. So I was hopeless because I must bring my PC to the Computer Shop to re-thermal paste it.
Still curios, I unplugged all the cords in the back of the PC and look inside it. I found that the CPU fan is dusty, and the heatsink is covered with thick dust. So I cleaned it up because I thought the heat is blocked by the dust.
After clening it up, I turn my PC back on and check the BIOS. The CPU heat is at 52 degree. So that was the problem :))
Before this, my PC is using an FC-PGA (using slot 1), so the CPU fan is rarely get covered by dust. But now I use socket 775. The placement of the processor is likely to get covered by dust instead of the slot 1.
So I must clean it up regularly. Duh… more work :p
